The West County Recorders
are a local group who began playing together every Friday morning at the home of retired professor Vic Rumsey, whose invitation started it all and who provided a vast library of recorder music to choose from. In the English way, tea and biscuits were served afterward. Despite shifts in personnel, that weekly rehearsal session - tea and cookies included - is still a tradition 20 years later.
The recorder repertoire specializes in Renaissance and Baroque music, but the group also plays modern arrangements. One member sets show tunes and old popular songs to make them suitable for a recorder ensemble.
At Christmas, the WCR performs for private Christmas parties, the Graton Community Club Christmas lunch, the Jenner Christmas Party, and used bookstores such as Second Chances.
